Coffee machine water filter basics
Genuine or compatible?
Coffee-machine filters soften water to protect the boiler from scale as much as they improve taste. The maker's own cartridge (Breville's Claro Swiss, De'Longhi's DLSC002, Philips AquaClean, Jura's Claris, BRITA Intenza for Bosch and Siemens) is matched to the machine's descaling counter; a compatible cartridge that fits the housing works, but check it states the same hardness rating so the machine's scale alerts stay honest.
Where the model number is
The model is on a label on the underside or the back of the machine, and often on the front badge (Barista Express BES870, Magnifica ECAM22.110). Type the code or photograph the label.
Why change it on time
Two to three months is the usual interval, sooner in hard-water areas. A spent filter stops softening, scale builds in the thermoblock, and the machine starts asking to be descaled more often. Fresh water also tastes cleaner in the cup.
How this list is built
Every fit comes from the manufacturer's own compatibility list or parts page, with the source recorded on each row. Where only a seller lists a fit, the page says “listed by sellers, not yet confirmed”. Prices are re-read from each seller's page daily where they publish one, and dated. How FitMatch checks fitment.
